Dr. Derek Lam, Oregon Health & Science University
Derek J. Lam MD, MPH is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon, USA. He completed his medical school, residency, and Masters of Public Health at the University of Washington in Seattle and a Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Lam is a clinician-scientist and studies the diagnosis and surgical management of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea, supported by two R61/R33 grants through the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Circadian Clocks and Meal Timing
Saturday, April 18th | 11:15-12:15pm
Dr. Ralph Mistlberger, Simon Fraser University
Robert E. Mistlberger, PhD, is Graduate Program Chair and Professor in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University, Canada. He directs the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Laboratory, and investigates the neural and molecular mechanisms of circadian clocks and sleep in mammals. Dr. Mistlberger earned his PhD in Biopsychology from the University of Chicago, and completed postdoctoral and senior research fellow training in chronobiology and sleep at Dalhousie University and Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on circadian entrainment by nonphotic cues, particularly feeding-related stimuli, food-anticipatory activity, and interactions between circadian timing, sleep, learning, and neurogenesis. He has served on numerous editorial boards in sleep and chronobiology, held long-standing federal research funding from NSERC and CIHR, and has received multiple honors, including the Dean’s Medal for Academic Excellence at SFU and the Career Achievement Award from the Canadian Society for Chronobiology.
